On Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 3:00 AM, actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested for a misdemeanor DUI, after he took a left turn in Hollywood and flipped his truck. Unfortunately, LaBeouf was injured in the collision. Shia is currently nursing his head, arm, and knee injuries at Cedars-Sinai, and will not return to the set of Transformers 2 for another month.

On Friday, July 18, 2008 the latest installment of Batman, The Dark Knight was released.  The film has been highly anticipated since the late Heath Ledger has given a spectacular performance as the Joker.  As of Monday, July 21, 2008, The Dark Knight stands first at the box office, and has set the global premiere weekend record to $158.4 million.

Ely 'Lucky' Grills, an eight year old male Koala bear “cheated death” by surviving after being struck by a car driving at 100 miles per hour for about 7 miles. Grills is now being treated at the Australian Wildlife Hospital in Brisbane.

Over the past two months, over 400 penguins have been found dead on the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Rescuers believe this is greater than normal, and are trying to identify the causes. Overfishing has been identified as a culprit since it has forced the birds to travel farther for survival.

Strains of Salmonella found in produce such as tomatoes and peppers have been identified by the FDA to be the causes of a recent food-poisoning outbreak. Consumers are advised to abstain away from fresh peppers and tomatoes, as the cases may get worse.

On Wednesday, July 23, 2008, Hurricane Dolly hit Texas and Mexico at a speed of nearly 100 miles per hour, and left a trail of destruction. Luckily, Hurricane Dolly has weakened after striking Texas.

Sanjib Saha, an Indian man took an impersonator of his wife to court in Kolkata, India earlier in July 2008, to divorce his real wife. Saha’s wish to separate from his wife was immediately granted. However, Saha got in trouble with his real wife and the law when the truth was exposed. Saha’s situation shows the loops in Inda’s legal system.

Snowy River, New Mexico, the longest continuous cave in the world, has recently had its first contact with humans. What explorers have discovered as the main attraction of the underground cave is the tiny clusters of calcite crystals that cover the floor of the Snowy River.

Bones of a young tarbosaurus believed to be nearly seventy million years old discovered by Japanese and Mongolian scientists. (Source: Reuters)

In 2006, Mongolian and Japanese scientists discovered a perfectly-preserved fossil of dinosaur in the Gobi Desert. The dinosaur has been identified as a seventy million year old young tarbosaurus and is now display in the Hayashibara Museum of Natural Science in Okayama, Japan.
